Vehicle speed control: cables

2004-05-19 · campaign 04V234000 · 10,200 vehicles

ON CERTAIN MINIVANS EQUIPPED WITH CRUISE CONTROL, THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTUATOR CABLE MAY BE BROKEN DUE TO INSUFFICIENT STRENGTH (GROUP 1). ALSO INCLUDED ARE CERTAIN 2000-2001 MINIVANS EQUIPPED WITH CRUISE CONTROL BUILT BETWEEN MARCH 31, 1999 AND MARCH 31, 2001, THAT HAVE HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL REPAIRED AND POSSIBLY HAD A DEFECTIVE CABLE INSTALLED DURING THAT REPAIR (GROUP 2).

Risk and remedy

Risk: IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE BROKEN ACTUATOR CABLE MAY BE OUT OF POSITION AND COULD INTERFERE WITH THE OPERATION OF THE ACCELERATOR CABLE, PREVENTING A DECREASE IN ENGINE SPEED WHILE DRIVING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ACTUATOR CABLE. OWNER NOTIFICATION FOR VEHICLES INVOLVED IN GROUP 1 BEGAN ON JULY 7, 2004. OWNER NOTIFICATION FOR VEHICLES INVOLVED IN GROUP 2 BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500.

2002-08-05 · campaign 02V196001 · 25 vehicles

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, SOME OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULES WERE NOT PROPERLY WELDED AND MAY NOT DEPLOY IN A COLLISION.

Risk and remedy

Risk: THE SEAT OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY PROTECTED IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN OCTOBER 4, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500.

Service brakes, hydraulic: foundation components, hoses, lines/piping, and fittings

2001-12-17 · campaign 01V382000 · 19,000 vehicles

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN MINI VANS WITHOUT ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEMS (ABS) FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 135, "PASSENGER CAR BRAKE SYSTEMS." DUE TO INAPPROPRIATE BRAKE PIPE LAYOUT, THESE VEHICLES DO NOT MEET THE BRAKE STOPPING DISTANCE WITH PARTIAL FAILURE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD.

Risk and remedy

Risk: IF PARTIAL FAILURE OCCURRED IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM, THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE COULD INCREASE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE BRAKE SYSTEM. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JANUARY 15, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MAZDA AT 1-800-222-5500, OPTION #4.

On certain vehicles, the liftgate stay dampers and stud bolts may rust and stick together, causing the stud bolds to break off. In the worst case, this condition may allow the liftgate to suddenly drop during opening or closing, injuring the operator. Correction: Dealers will replace the left and right dampers and stud bolts.

Engine

2004-10-20 · campaign 2004-376

On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.5L V6 Duratec engine, while driving at a constant speed on the highway, it is possible that the engine speed will not decrease when releasing the accelerator pedal due to a frozen throttle valve. This condition occurs at ambient temperatures from -30 to -40 degrees Celsius. The vehicle can be brought to a full stop by depressing the brake pedal. Correction: Dealers will replace the intake manifold and PCV hose with modified parts which will change the layout of the PCV hose system.

Engine

2004-06-02 · campaign 2004-183

On certain vehicles, the cruise control actuator cable may be broken due to insufficient strength. Also included are certain 2000-2001 minivans built between March 31, 1999 and March 31, 2001, that have had the cruise control repaired and possibly had a defective cable installed during that repair. It is possible that the broken actuator cable may be out of position and could interfere with the operation of the accelerator cable, preventing a decrease in engine speed while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the actuator cable.

Airbag

2002-08-02 · campaign 2002-145 · 79 vehicles

On certain vehicles, the diffuser may come off the inflator for the passenger air bag during deployment due to improper welding. Under these conditions, expanded gas cannot be supplied to the bag and may not deploy during a frontal crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger side airbag with a correct one.

Brakes

2001-12-21 · campaign 2001-297

Due to inappropriate brake pipe layout certain vehicles fail to meet the required partial failure stopping distance required by C.M.V.S.S. 135. Correction: Dealers will replace the proportioning valve, brake pipes, and hardware.
