Risk: THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPOSITION THE HOSE AND REPLACE THE HOSE IF NECESSARY. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING APRIL 2003. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE ENGINE CAN START UP ON SIX OF THE TWELVE CYLINDERS. THIS IS DUE TO ONE OF THE TWO POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULES NOT OPERATING WITH ITS DESIGN SPECIFICATION. THIS CONDITION WILL BE EVIDENT BY A LACK OF ENGINE POWER AND OR SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST TAIL PIPE.
Risk and remedy
Risk: IF THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN IN THIS CONDITION, IT COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE EXHAUST CATALYST DUE TO OVERHEATING.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULES WITH RECALIBRATED PROGRAMS.
Steering: linkages
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE WELDS SECURING THE FRONT DAMPER LOWER MOUNTING BRACKET COULD BE INADEQUATE RESULTING IN SEPARATION OF THE BRACKET.
Risk and remedy
Risk: THE SEPARATED BRACKET COULD DISPLACE THE DAMPER, AND LIMIT STEERING ACTION.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE FRONT DAMPER LOWER MOUNTING BRACKET.

On certain vehicles, the power steering high pressure hose may contact the left exhaust manifold. If this were to happen, the hose could burn through and cause a progressive loss of hydraulic fluid and power steering assistance. Correction: Dealer will affect repairs.

The steering column lighting switchgear has the potential to trap wires, leading to a partial loss of lighting functionality. Depending on which wires are trapped, the loss of lighting function can vary. Correction: Dealers will replace the switchgear assembly.

On certain vehicles, one of the two powertrain control modules may intermittently not function as specified on start up. This may allow the twelve cylinder engine to run on one bank of six cylinders only. This condition will cause a lack of engine power and if the engine continues to run on one bank, the exhaust catalyst can overheat on the non-functioning cylinder bank, causing a potential heat damage hazard. Correction: The two powertrain control modules will be replaced.

On certain vehicles, the front damper lower mounting bracket may be inadequately welded. Bracket separation could result in a deterioration of handling characteristics. Correction: Both front damper lower mounting brackets will be inspected for weld integrity. Suspect brackets will be replaced.
