Suspension

2009-04-16 · campaign 09V124000 · 188,282 vehicles

HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 188,282 MY 2001-2004 SONATA AND MY 2001-2004 XG300 AND XG350 VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. ROAD SALT APPLIED IN THESE JURISDICTIONS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS MAY RESULT IN PROGRESSIVE, INTERNAL CORROSION OF THE FRONT SUB-FRAME ON THE VEHICLES, AND MAY RESULT IN THINNING OR PERFORATION OF THE SUB-FRAME STEEL. THE CORROSION IS FREQUENTLY VISIBLE AND OFTEN DISCOVERED DURING INSPECTION OR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, AND OWNERS MAY ALSO HEAR NOISES OR NOTICE TIRE MISALIGNMENT AND STEERING PULL. IF THESE SIGNALS ARE UNDETECTED OR UNHEEDED, THE CORROSION MAY PROGRESS AND THE FORWARD MOUNTING OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM MAY DETACH FROM THE SUB-FRAME.

Risk and remedy

Risk: IF THAT HAPPENS, THE VEHICLE MAY LOSE DRIVE POWER TO THE WHEELS, AND THE FRONT WHEEL MAY MAKE CONTACT WITH THE FENDER OR WHEEL WELL, THEREBY INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL MEASURE THE THICKNESS OF THE FRONT SUB-FRAME AND INSPECT THE FRONT SUB-FRAME FOR CORROSION DAMAGE AND, IF NECESSARY, THE FRONT SUB-FRAME WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW SUB-FRAME THAT INCORPORATES ADDITIONAL HOLES IN THE UPPER AND LOWER PANELS. IF THE FRONT SUB-FRAME DOES NOT REQUIRE REPLACEMENT, THE DEALER WILL ADD DRAINAGE HOLES TO THE SUB-FRAME AND WILL TREAT THE SUB-FRAME WITH RUST-PROOFING MATERIAL TO STOP THE CORROSION PROCESS. THIS PROCEDURE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING APRIL 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE HYUNDAI CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-633-5151.

Air bags: side/window

2002-04-09 · campaign 02V105000 · 145,355 vehicles

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION THAT LEADS TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATION COULD RESULT FROM MOTION OF THE SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS AND SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR WHICH MOUNT TO THE ADJUSTABLE SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY. THIS CONDITION ONLY RELATES TO THE SIDE IMPACT AIR BAGS AND COULD PREVENT AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT DURING A CRASH WHERE SUCH DEPLOYMENT SHOULD OCCUR.

Risk and remedy

Risk: NON-DEPLOYMENT OF THE SRS SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY DURING A SIDE IMPACT CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL MORE SECURELY FASTEN THE SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG WIRING HARNESSES AND CONNECTORS TO THE VEHICLE'S FRONT SEAT CUSHION FRAMES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 28, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.

Power train

2001-11-29 · campaign 01V362000 · 1,963 vehicles

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULES (PCM) WERE INSTALLED IN SOME VEHICLES. THE IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED PCMS CONTAINED A CONDENSER THAT WAS NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED ONTO THE PCM PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD. THE INCORRECT INSTALLATION OF THE CONDENSER COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE IGNITION FAILURE SENSOR.

Risk and remedy

Risk: A DAMAGED IGNITION FAILURE SENSOR COULD RESULT IN ENGINE STALLING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE PCM TO DETERMINE IF IT WAS MANUFACTURED DURING THE AFFECTED PRODUCTION PERIOD. IF NECESSARY, THE PCM WILL BE REPLACED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JANUARY 27, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 110. THESE VEHICLES DO NOT HAVE THE CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE PLACARD ATTACHED.

Risk and remedy

Risk: INCORRECT TIRE INFLATION PRESSURE CAN DAMAGE TIRES, AFFECT VEHICLE HANDLING, AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE PLACARD AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING OCTOBER 2001. OWNERS WHO DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE TIRE PRESSURE PLACARD AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-829-9956.

Structure

2009-04-23 · campaign 2009-123

On certain vehicles operated in areas of heavy road salt usage (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador), road salt can collect in the rear portion of the side members of the subframe and may result in internal corrosion leading to thinning or perforation of the subframe steel. The corrosion may ultimately lead to separation of the lower control arm at the forward mounting point to the subframe. When separation occurs, in most cases, the movement of the arm will cause the axle to pull out of the transaxle and the vehicle will no longer have drive power to the wheels. In extreme cases, the wheel can also rotate off its designed axis and make contact with the fender or the wheel well. Both outcomes could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the front subframe assembly. Should the subframe not require replacement, drainage holes will be added, as well as treatment with rust-proofing material to arrest the corrosion process.

Airbag

2002-05-06 · campaign 2002-082

On certain vehicles an intermittent condition that leads to the supplemental restraint system (srs) air bag warning light illumination could result from motion of the side impact air bag wiring harness and side impact air bag wiring harness connector which mount to the adjustable seat cushion assembly. This condition only relates to the driver and passenger seat mounted side impact air bags and could prevent seat mounted side impact air bag deployment during a crash where such deployment should occur. Non-deployment of the srs side impact air bag could increase the risk of injury during a crash where side impact air bag deployment is intended. Correction: Dealers will service the front seat side impact airbag wiring harness.

Engine

2001-12-20 · campaign 2001-296 · 197 vehicles

Certain passenger vehicles. Improperly manufactured power train control modules (PCM) were installed in some vehicles. The improperly manufactured PCMS contained a condenser that was not correctly installed onto the PCM printed circuit board. The incorrect installation of the condenser could result in damage to the ignition failure sensor resulting, in engine stalling, increasing the risk of a crash. Correction: dealers will inspect the PCM to determine if it was manufactured during the affected production period. If necessary, the PCM will be replaced at no cost to the vehicle owner. .
