Remedy: Owners are advised not to charge their vehicles when the ambient air temperature is below or expected to drop below 41 degrees Fahrenheit (5 degrees Celsius). Dealers will replace the DC-DC converter, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 29, 2023. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Rav4, Rav4 Hybrid, and Rav4 Prime vehicles. The front passenger seat may have been assembled with interference between internal parts that may cause the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensor to incorrectly detect the occupant. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Risk and remedy

Risk: Incorrect detection of an occupant may result in improper air bag deployment during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Electrical

2023-07-12 · campaign 2023-382

Issue: On certain plug-in hybrid vehicles, the DC-DC converter located under the rear seat could fail. If this happens, the DC-DC converter and nearby parts could overheat. Safety Risk: A DC-DC converter that overheats can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Toyota will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the DC-DC converter. To reduce the safety risk, Toyota recommends not to charge your vehicle while the air temperature is below or expected to drop below 5° C until the recall repairs have been completed.

Seats and restraints

2022-07-21 · campaign 2022-388 · 78 vehicles

Issue: On certain RAV4 Prime models, the occupant classification system (OCS) may not work properly due to interference between seat components. As a result, the airbag system can turn off the passenger-front airbag even when an adult is sitting in the seat. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with an 8-way power front passenger seat with a seat lifter function. Safety Risk: An airbag system that does not work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Toyota will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the front passenger seat. If interference is found, the dealer will adjust the seat, as necessary, and re-calibrate the occupant classification system.

Brakes

2022-04-13 · campaign 2022-179

Issue: Under certain conditions, the vehicle stability control (VSC) system may not switch on when the ignition is restarted. This can happen if the driver manually turns off the VSC, depresses the brake pedal, and then turns off and restarts the vehicle while continuously depressing the brake pedal. Canadian regulations require the stability control system to be active each time that you start the vehicle. Safety Risk: A stability control system that is switched off could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the skid control ECU software.
